Offline expense reports
Business travel often means poor connectivity: flights, trains, hotels abroad. Offline expense reporting means scanning receipts, logging mileage and building expense notes without uploading data to a vendor cloud. PikScan Expenses does this entirely on your phone.
Why offline matters for expense reports
- Cloud expense apps stop working when you have no signal
- Receipt photos should not transit through unknown SaaS servers by default
- GDPR and company policies may require local storage until export
How PikScan Expenses works offline
- Create a trip: set dates, location, currency and budget for your mission.
- Scan receipts: on-device OCR reads merchant, date and amount - single or batch (up to 10). No internet.
- Add mileage: log distance, round trips and per-km allowances tied to the mission.
- Build expense notes: generate a note, submit for approval, track status locally.
- Export: share CSV/Excel (Free) or PDF, FEC, Pennylane, QuickBooks, Xero, DATEV (Premium) when you choose.
Data location
OCR runs on device. Receipts, trips, mileage and expense notes live in a local SQLite database. Backups are files you export manually or via a periodic in-app reminder (JSON or ZIP), saved locally or to your own iCloud Drive, restorable in the app at any time. PikScan does not operate a sync server: that is not a missing backup.
Limits (Free vs Premium)
- Free: 30 receipt scans, CSV & Excel export, local JSON backup
- Premium: unlimited scans, PDF + accounting exports, trip comparison, multi-currency, ZIP backup with images
